Our goal is to make sure you have all the info you need to feel confident using PRE DE-ICER. And if there's anything else on your mind, just reach out to us by chat or phone—we're here to help
- Is it safe for the environment, my sidewalks, and especially my car?
Yes. The SCS confirms that nearly all ingredients in PRE DE-ICER are food-grade, except for the isopropyl alcohol. However, it’s diluted enough to be safe for paint, clear coats, wiper blades, and other surfaces. This level of safety isn’t always guaranteed by more toxic de-icers on the market.
- What if it rains before the snow or ice storm? Will it still work?
Yes. PRE DE-ICER is designed to handle rain before a freeze. The formulation actually gets thicker when exposed to water, rather than thinning out. It would take hours of heavy rain to dilute it significantly.
- Will it leave residue on my windshield?
If you apply PRE DE-ICER before a storm, it will not leave any harmful residue. If the storm occurs, simply activate your wipers to clear the treated area. Any remaining PRE DE-ICER outside the wiper’s reach can be easily rinsed away with water.
- What if I apply it and it doesn’t snow for days?
If PRE DE-ICER sits on a surface without freezing temperatures or precipitation, it will remain until washed away. It can be reactivated with water and, in some cases, may even act as a mild fertilizer due to its starch content.
- Is it safe around pets?
Yes. The majority of ingredients are food-grade, except for the diluted isopropyl alcohol. Although the inventor once demonstrated its safety by tasting it, we now include a bittering agent to deter children and pets from consuming it.
- Will it harm my grass or flowers?
No. In fact, the starch component can act as a mild organic fertilizer.
- Will it work in severe ice storms?
Absolutely. Ice storms are wherePRE DE-ICER performs best. Once applied, the ice can’t bond to the surface and instead melts off or slides away.
- How does it handle heavy snow?
During blizzards or heavy snow, the snow may accumulate but won’t bond to surfaces treated with PRE DE-ICER . Once the storm ends, the snow will melt more quickly than on untreated surfaces. For vehicles, a few swipes of the wipers will clear the windshield.
- How long does it last in the bottle?
As long as the bottle remains sealed, PRE DE-ICER will last indefinitely. If opened and left uncapped, the alcohol will evaporate, slightly reducing its freezing point.
- Do I still need to shovel after applying it to my driveway?
If it’s light to moderate snow, PRE DE-ICER will melt Snow and Ice on contact. For heavier accumulations, you may need to shovel. However, the treated surface will prevent the snow from sticking, making it easier to clear.
- How often do I need to apply it during a storm?
For a typical storm lasting 4-6 hours, one application is sufficient. If you forget to apply it before the storm, you can still spray it to melt existing ice or snow.
- Why would I buy PRE DE-ICER when I can just use a scraper?
A scraper works, but PRE DE-ICER offers added convenience and safety. Instead of going outside in freezing temperatures and risking slips, you can apply it beforehand and let it do the work. Plus, it keeps your windshield and driveway clear without the effort of scraping or shoveling, reducing potential injuries and exposure to traffic hazards.
